In 2022 these eggs will come from two separate Blue Dark pens. One pen will have an exhibition line dark male with blue dark females. This is the same cross we did in 2021; repeatedly using exhibition line dark males in this way has led to great improvement in type, and we expect this pen to have the best type of all our 2022 breeding pens. We will have a secondary pen that instead uses a blue dark male with dark and blue dark females. This secondary pen will be focused on continuing to improve color.
In addition to blue darks, both of these pens will be producing black patterned offspring. While these can be traced back to blue partridge Brahmas several generations ago, the black patterned offspring have reliably had the correct coloring for standard dark Brahmas (i.e. none of the red leakage we are working to eliminate in the blue patterned offspring). However, the blue partridge ancestry means there are still some lingering traits that are more in line with the European Brahma standard than the US Brahma standard. Keep this in mind if considering using the darks from this project in a standard dark Brahma breeding program.
The secondary pen will also be producing a very small number of splash patterned offspring. This will be the first year producing splash patterned offspring from this project so we cannot say for sure exactly how they will look. But we do know that red leakage is more visible in splash patterned individuals (compared to blue or black patterned) so it is possible these will resemble SSO more than what would be considered a "splash dark".
Orders are limited to one dozen. Greater quantities will be treated as additional orders to be filled separately.
